The Nothwestern Garden

The North Western garden is bounded by a cedar hedge to the south and north, the farm laneway to the west and Centre Point to the east. It was started in 1979 and has been through many changes, the last of which was in 2012. There are eleven beds with a multiplicity of shapes: oval, circle, half-moon, quarter moon and freeform. The carefully cut beds over the years have become grossly distorted. The outstanding feature is the peninsula shaped and freeform bed surrounding the largest pond. The orientation behind the layout was to integrate this garden with the outdoor living spaces in proximity to the house. In conjunction with the patio and sundeck, daily life was centred in this garden.
