The Cottage Style garden wraps around the house embracing also the beds along the paved entrance way leading to the house. It contains the very first garden bed established in 1975. It began with a 2-foot strip of ground running along the entire front of the verandah, and expanded to its current size in 2006 with the installation of the paved walkway. The only remnants of the original plantings are the Snow Balls, hydrangeas and three peonies found on the property when it was purchased. In 1979 it was taken around to the east side and expanded at the rear between 1980-1982 with the butterfly shaped bed. Another addition made in 1999 is referred to as the 25th Anniversary bed so called because of an initial planting with 25 hostas – one for each year of marriage, of which only 10 now exist.
